A Marvel television series featuring Loki and Scarlet Witch? Disney is developing that

After months of rumors, Disney CEO Bob Iger confirmed Thursday that the studio is developing a spin-off to hit “Black Panther.” The news comes as part of the company’s announcement that its upcoming streaming service, Disney+, will also have a Marvel series featuring popular characters Loki and Scarlet Witch.

Kathryn Hahn has been cast as the female lead in the movie, which would be one of the “first to tell the backstory of Wanda and Bruce Banner’s friendship,” according to Iger.

The six-episode series will be a prequel series detailing the time before the events of “Black Panther,” which is the ninth highest-grossing movie of all time.

“Wanda and Bruce’s friendship began when he was a young man and she was a student,” Iger added. “Years later, their minds join in a powerful way, becoming the Avengers: they’re the team that’s impossible to stop.”

“WandaVision” is a computer-generated image and variant character created by Marvel Comics artist Lee Weeks to showcase the power of the Mind Stone. The Marvel braintrust has not yet announced who will be creating the show.

Hahn can currently be seen on the HBO series “Kidding” playing the character Sadie Vogel. She will also appear in 2019’s “The Interpreter,” “The Mule” and the voice of Izzy on the animated feature “Lion King.”

Disney+ was first announced in 2016.
