ADDISON, Minn. — A 2-year-old girl from a Toronto suburb is dead, three months after she ingested illegal drugs in south-central Minnesota, the criminal charges allege.
Moorhead police spokesman Aaron Jaeger said the girl died Friday. The Minnesota Bureau of Criminal Apprehension is investigating.
Officers responded to a report that the child had ingested drugs April 25, the BCA said. Jaeger said they later learned the child ingested illegal drugs in Maple Grove and the child’s body tested positive for them.
Investigators obtained a search warrant for a home in Maple Grove and found items that indicated that the drugs had been ingested by the child in a gas-powered blender and may have also contaminated other items found in the home, according to a criminal complaint.
The charges against the parents, Zackary Ginter, 24, and Erin Ginter, 23, include two counts of second-degree drug possession and one count of second-degree endangerment of a child. The child died at a hospital in Austin, about 70 miles (112 kilometers) south of Minneapolis.
Court records don’t list an attorney for the parents.
