The Carolina Panthers have won the NFL Draft lottery for the third time in four years, landing North Carolina State running back Christian McCaffrey in the first round.

McCaffrey played his college football at Stanford University, where he ran for 3,864 yards and scored 41 touchdowns over the past three seasons.

“That moment was just a moment of absolute excitement and I’m just so thankful to be part of this amazing franchise,” McCaffrey said.

He was one of two players selected by the Panthers in the first round of the NFL Draft on Friday night.

The 20-year-old also known as “MAC Man” also did not disappoint with his first action in the National Football League.

McCaffrey picked up 22 yards on his first touch.

A third-year player from Palo Alto, Calif., McCaffrey was named the ACC Offensive Player of the Year for the 2016 season. The 5-foot-11, 195-pound player scored a touchdown with just his first touch in his first NFL game as he teamed up with quarterback Cam Newton to help Carolina jump out to a 17-0 lead.

So long as the Panthers can find a way to keep quarterback Cam Newton upright — his quick release and interception-free performance continued last night — the team will be in good shape this season.
