Who will be the ‘go-to-mate’ for a Biden 2020?

Among the Democratic rivals lining up to challenge President Donald Trump in the 2020 presidential election, Sen. Kamala Harris has quickly risen to be among the top tier. CNN’s Jeff Zeleny reports:

Harris, along with Sens. Bernie Sanders and Elizabeth Warren, has emerged as the leading challenger to the eventual Democratic nominee who seeks to beat Trump in what is widely expected to be a fierce and expensive 2020 race.

But there are some old wounds to mend that could derail a future campaign.

Even as some party insiders celebrate Harris’ rise, others are frustrated at what they see as an endorsement dilemma for the California senator who has sworn to not seek the White House in 2020.

Their main source of concern is what exactly would be her role in a Biden White House. While “folks are excited about Kamala joining forces with Joe, we’ve also heard frustration from those wanting her as the go-to-mate for a Biden campaign that she can also be described as the frontrunner and friend to a Biden candidacy,” according to one Democratic insider familiar with Harris.

They are arguing that there is a fine line to walk with Harris “between being a delegate and being that big tent ally on Joe’s side,” the source said.
